McLaren Automotive (launched in 2010) is a pioneer that continuously pushes the boundaries and is now the largest part of the McLaren Group. In 1981, it introduced lightweight and strong carbon fibre chassis into Formula 1 with the McLaren MP4/1. Then in 1993 it designed and built the McLaren F1 road car - the company has not built a car without a carbon fibre chassis since. As part of the Ultimate Series, McLaren was the first to deliver a hybrid hypercar, the McLaren P1™.

It was confirmed at Geneva Motor Show that the forthcoming ‘Hyper-GT’ will be capable of exceeding 243mph (391km/h) – the peak speed of the iconic McLaren F1. This new model to join the Ultimate Series following the McLaren Senna features a centrally-mounted driving position inspired by F1 road car. The next addition to the McLaren Ultimate Series will be the most luxurious McLaren yet. Each BP23 will be personalised to each owner’s taste by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), the division of McLaren Automotive responsible for bespoke customer commissions.

The BP23 will carry an as-yet unannounced name, rather than the alphanumerical nomenclatures used by the McLaren Sports Series and Super Series; this name, together with the maximum possible speed, will be disclosed nearer to the car’s reveal. The public reveal of the limited petrol-electric hybrid ‘Hyper-GT’ can be expected this year, before the end of 2018. There will be a private preview for its depositors ahead. Only 106 of the cars will be produced and unfortunately all are already sold at £1.6million each, plus taxes (bad luck everyone else)!

Key features:

  • A three-seat cockpit design with a central driving position – the same layout as the F1.
  • A petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, delivering the unparalleled blend of extreme performance and sporting luxury.

Announced in 2016, the McLaren Automotive's Track22 business plan will see the company invest £1 billion in research and development to deliver 15 new cars or derivatives by the end of 2022, of which at least half will be hybrids. 2017 saw the company launch further models in line with Track22 including the second-generation Super Series, the 570S Spider and the McLaren Senna.
